Sentencing was delayed Monday for a Cedar Rapids man, convicted of four bank robberies, so his attorney could review evidence prosecutors received last week regarding a stabbing incident in the Linn County Jail.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Tremmel told the court he received information and videos of a fight involving Javon Dockery, 29, and another inmate or inmates that led to a stabbing with a sharpened toothbrush.
According to the motion, Dockery is accused of stabbing another inmate March 20.
Linn County Sheriff Brian Gardner said Monday afternoon one inmate was cut on the cheek and received two stitches. Dockery was injured. At this time, Dockery hasn't been charged, he said.
U.S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade granted a request by Mike Lindemann, Dockery's attorney, for a short continuance so he could review the new information. The hearing will be reset for next week, she said. Dockery pleaded guilty last year to four counts of bank robbery and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. He robbed two U.S. Bank and one Guaranty Bank branch twuce from April to June 2014.
During the hearing last year, Dockery admitted to robbing the U.S. Bank, 129 16th Ave. SW, of $5,186 on April 30 and of $10,327 on June 26. He also admitted to displaying a semi-automatic handgun when he demanded money in the June 26 robbery.
He also admitted to robbing Guaranty Bank, 2711 Bever Ave. SE, of $7,113 on May 16 and $13,633 on May 29.
His girlfriend, Bria Daudinot, 21, of Cedar Rapids, was also convicted in the crime and pleaded guilty last year to aiding and abetting in the bank robbery. She was the getaway driver in the robberies. She was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Dockery filed a motion last year asking the court to marry Daudinot before she or he had been sentenced. Prosecutors filed resistance and a judge denied it because both were potential witnesses in each of their cases.
Dockery faces up to 20 counts on each robbery count and will be ordered to pay $15,513 in restitution to U.S. Bank and $20,746 to Guaranty Bank. Dockery has previous convictions, which could increase his prison time.
