Police investigating Hiawatha shooting, one injured
HIAWATHA - Police are investigating a shooting early Sunday morning.
Officers responded to the 800 block of Brandon Avenue just before 1:30 a.m. They arrived to find a man was shot in the stomach.
The victim, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, officers noticed a vehicle matching the description of one belonging to the suspects in the shooting.
Police chased the vehicle until it stopped in the 6500 block of Medforn Lane in Cedar Rapids. The driver was arrested on traffic charges. Investigators found a gun along the path the vehicle traveled.
Others inside the vehicle ran away. A release from the Hiawatha Police Department does not specify if the were also taken into custody.
