Fire does ‘significant’ damage to front of North Liberty home

NORTH LIBERTY - A Monday afternoon fire started under a deck and quickly spread.
Firefighters responded at 2:27 p.m. to the 600 block of Rebecca Street. A police officer said the front of the structure was covered in flames.
Crews arrive to find flames and smoke coming from the front of the residence, and saw the fire had spread into the attic.
A person was home at the time, but was not injured. Firefighters were able to rescue a cat from the structure. The American Red Cross is helping those who live in the building.
Investigators are working to determine how the fire started.
Officials did not immediately have an estimate on the value of the damaged property, 'but the front of the home did receive significant fire damage,” according to a release from the North Liberty Fire Department.
