Apr. 1, 2015 7:01 pm
A former bank teller was convicted Wednesday in federal court to embezzling over $144,000 from the Iowa Falls State Bank.
Teresa Ann Kobriger, 42, of Iowa Falls, pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement by a bank employee. During the plea hearing, she admitted to embezzling $144,181 from the bank while she was employed as a client associate supervisor or head teller from December 2008 to December 2012.
According to court documents, Kobriger stole the cash from her own teller drawer and the bank vault. She was in charge of all the tellers, bank vault, and ordering cash for the bank. In order to conceal the thefts, she altered a spreadsheet used to track cash going into and out of the bank vault.
Bank employees discovered the cash discrepancies in January 2014, according to the plea.
Kobriger faces up to 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine. According to the plea, she also will be ordered to pay at least $144,181 in restitution to the bank or its insurer and be required, before sentencing, to correct her tax returns for the unreported income from 2008-12.
