Investigation into shots fired at Iowa City’s Ped Mall continues

Iowa City Police Officers on foot patrol early Sunday morning heard several gunshots in the Ped Mall area.
Just after 1:30 a.m., police responded to the incident where witnesses described two black males, who fled the area, as the shooters. Police found a juvenile black male two blocks south of the incident. The juvenile was carrying a loaded pistol and wearing a white T-shirt as described by witnesses. He admitted to firing multiple gunshots into the air and was charged with reckless use of a firearm, carrying weapons, going armed with intent and intimidation with a dangerous weapon. No injuries were reported.
The second suspect, described by witnesses as wearing dark clothing, was not located according to a news release from Iowa City Police officials.
A $1000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of this suspect is being offered by the Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 358-TIPS (8477).
The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa City Police.
