CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids firefighters responded to a fire at Sunline Inc. and Chase Auto, located at 4000 Sixth St. SW, early Monday afternoon.
Capt. Dan Drexler said he was first to arrive on the scene Monday, and saw flames coming from several vehicles in the salvage yard. He said salvage yard employees had starting pulling apart the burning pile, which created a few smaller fires the department had to put out.
Crews were able to put the fire out within about an hour, Drexler said. No injuries were reported.
The owner of the salvage yard said fires sometimes spark while employees are cutting vehicles apart to be crushed. Drexler said it appeared some of Monday's fire was being fueled by remnants of flammable fluids trapped in the engine lines of some of the vehicles.
