CEDAR RAPIDS - A crash on Blairs Ferry Road sent a driver and a police officer to the hospital on Sunday.
Dispatchers first received a call about the crash at 2:42 that involved a police car and minivan.
A crash report from the Iowa State Patrol says the squad car was driving eastbound in the center turn lane on Blairs Ferry Road with its lights and sirens on while responding to a report of an assault with injury.
Traffic in front of the Dodge Caravan, which 35-year-old Deanna Lipcamon was driving west on Blairs Ferry, suddenly stopped. Lipcamon swerved into the turn lane, leading to a head-on crash with the police car.
Lipcamon and the police officer, identified as 45-year-old Steven Yardley, were taken to St. Luke's Hospital with minor injuries.
