CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man who robbed a bank while on federal supervised release was sentenced Wednesday to over six years in federal prison.
Jacob Allen Mack, 24, pleaded guilty July 18 to one count of bank robbery. During the plea hearing, Mack admitted he robbed the downtown branch of Hills Bank and Trust May 2. He also admitted to taking over $6,000 from the bank. At the time, Mack was on supervised release following a 2011 federal conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm.
Mack had a previous conviction in Linn County District Court for second-degree theft in 2010 and was then convicted in federal court for being a felon and illegal drug user in possession of a firearm, according to court documents. He served over a year on the firearm charge before his federal supervised release was revoked for violations and he was sentenced to another 11 months in prison.
He was released March 22 before being charged in the bank robbery.
Mack was sentenced to 57 months in prison Wednesday for the bank robbery and another two years in prison for violating the terms of his federal supervised release. He was also ordered to make restitution to Hills Bank and Trust and will have to serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison time.
