Dewey D. Dircks, 86, of Clarence, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, St. John's United Church of Christ, Clarence, with the Rev. David Mears and the Rev. David Doyle officiating. Burial: St. John's Cemetery, with military rites by Clarence American Legion Poist 286. Friends may call beginning at noon Friday at the church.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Dorothy; son, Randy (Cindy) of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Jolene (Josh) Grau of Lisbon; grandchildren, Dallas Dircks and Dircks Grau; and brother, John (Joyce) Dircks of Clarence.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Verna Lee Rix and Patricia Severin.
Dewey was born Marcy 17, 1927, in rural Clarence, to Richard and Della Hartwig Dircks. He married Dorothy McClelland on Feb. 11, 1967, in Ely.
Dewey was an Army veteran serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 286 and St. John's United Church of Christ, both in Clarence. He was a farmer on his own century farm, south of Clarence.
Dewey loved his cats and granddog, Ryder. He was proud of both of his grandsons.
