CARL ZAUCHE
Peosta
Carl L. Zauche, 84, of Peosta, passed peacefully into life anew on Saturday, March 29, 2014. Visitation will be Friday, April 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 3200 Asbury Rd., Dubuque. On Saturday, April 5, visitation will be at 10 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. at St Peter Lutheran Church.
Carl was born April 29, 1929, in Dubuque, Iowa, and lived out his life on his family farm in Peosta. He received eight years of education at the Johnson Schoolhouse, two years at Senior High School and two winter quarters of farm operations at Iowa State University. Rosemary Shumaker and Carl were united in marriage on Oct. 8, 1960, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Olin.
Carl served on many county boards such as cattlemen, extension, fairboard and sunnycrest. He received recognition as "Board member of the Year" on the Dubuque County Fairboard for overseeing the construction of the 4-H beef buildings, "Hall of Fame" for the Dubuque County Cattlemen and "Friend of Agriculture" at the Rural Ministry Conference. For the Dubuque County Cattlemen, he served as president and liaison with the Dubuque Area Chamber. He participated in Dale Carnegie courses and was a member of Toastmasters.
He spent his life as a steward of God's creation and a shepherd of God's people. With the farm, he had great pride in his beef operation, raising Hereford cattle and later transition-ing to Red Angus. He also enjoyed raising and eating garden produce, with a special appetite for straw-berries.
He led through his word and his actions as a volunteer. He served as evangelism chair at St. Peter, property-building committee and evangelism for Lord of Life and helped with the St. Mark Community Center and Bethany Auxiliary. He was a founding member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Grace Lutheran Church.
Carl is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosemary; their four children, Dan (Jackie) Zauche of Peosta, Cindy (Doug) Recker of Peosta, Carl J. (Beth) Zauche of Hiawatha and Tim (Geri) Zauche of Platteville; 12 grandchildren, Rob (Kaitlyn), Jacob, Ally, John, Josh, Madalyn Zauche, Jared Woock, Sarah (Mark) Wedige and Vaughn, Andre, Nathan and Natalie Recker; and two great-grandchildren, Ella Wedige and Devon Zauche. Also surviving are a sister, Helen (Loren) Pahl; sister-in-law, Margaret (Dale) Clyde; and five nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl A. and Emma Zauche.
The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory in Dubuque is in charge of arrangements.
On behalf of Carl, the family would like to thank the staff at Oak Park, Manor Care, Dubuque Nursing and Rehabilitation, Hospice of Dubuque, St. Peter, Lord of Life Lutheran and the Communion Visitors, and Dubuque Fellowship of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, me-morials may be given to the Lord of Life Building Fund.
