Marvin V. Messerschmidt, 82, of Marion, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
He was born April 29, 1931, in Shelby County, son of Walter F. and Mabel A. Krohn Messerschmidt. He married Dixie R. Moore on July 23, 1952, in Shelby. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1950 and was a State Trooper for the Iowa State Patrol for 30 years, retiring in December 1986.
Surviving are his wife, Dixie of Marion; two sons, Dan of Marion and Brian (Carin) of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Nancy (Craig) Baumhover of Marion and Kristin (Dan) Wright of Muscatine; seven grandchildren; four great-grand-children; six stepgrand-children; five stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Eggerss of Shelby; a brother, Allen (Kay) Messerschmidt of Cedar Falls; and a sister-in-law, Catherine (Bob) Thoms of Shelby.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Messer-schmidt, and a brother-in-law, Ronald Eggerss.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, with burial at a later date in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls and also for one hour before services Monday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Shriners Children's Hospital in Minne-apolis.
