Carol J. Fangman Cook, 57, of Independence, formerly of the Monti area, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo.
Carol was born Oct. 15, 1956, in Independence, the daughter of William F. and Eleanor L. (Burns) Fangman. She was a 1974 graduate of the East Buchanan High School in Winthrop and received a Pharmacy Degree in 1981 from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, later returning to receive her Ph.D. in pharmacy in 1999. Carol was employed as a pharmacist throughout Northeast Iowa.
She is survived by five children, Michael (Dana) Cook, North Liberty, Lucy Cook, Ankeny, Sally Cook, Austin, Texas, Elliot Cook and Emma Cook, both of Iowa City; the love of her life, Jim Engel, Monticello; three sisters, Mary Pat (Dale) Scheckel, Urbandale, Jo Anne Nero, Kansas City, Mo., and Karen (Randy) Andrews, Independence; and two brothers,
Richard Fangman, Independence, Mo., and Donny (Alice) Fangman, Masonville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monti, with the Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
