Harold Claire "Red" Peters died Thursday, March 6, 2014, in his home. Mass of the Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, at St. Matthew's Church, officiated by Father David Beckman. Interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in DeWitt. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
Memorial donations in Red's name may be directed to the NRA.

Red was born April 3, 1951, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Harold Lee and Mary Lou (Butterworth) Peters. He resided in DeWitt until 1976. He was united in marriage to Roberta "Bobbie" McManus on Oct. 23, 1981, at All Saints Church in Cedar Rapids.
Red joined the Linn County Sheriff's Office in 1977. He worked patrol and civil and was proud to have been a member of the bomb squad for several years. Red retired as a sheriff's deputy in 2007.
He was a member of St. Matthew's Parish. Red was a lifetime member of the NRA and was a staunch and opinionated Republican.
He loved his Harley and his dogs. He enjoyed hunting and shooting sports.
Red is survived by his wife, Bobbie; son, Zach Peters (Emilie), and daughter, Erin Peters, all of Cedar Rapids; brother, Nick Peters (Jan) of Allenspark, Colo.; brother, Dow Peters of Tucson, Ariz.; and beloved canine companions, Maizy and Hugo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kent Peters; and best dog friend, Paco.
