Eldon Leonard Stepanek, 90, of Fairfax, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121
Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery, where full mil-itary rites will be conducted by the Fairfax American Legion Pekomey Post 572. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Eldon was born Jan. 31, 1924, at home in Fairfax on the family farm, the son of Leonard and Emma (Cuhel) Stepanek. Eldon served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He married Dorothee M. Hillmer on June 29, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. Eldon farmed in the Fairfax area most of his life.
He enjoyed fishing, watching the Cubs, being involved with the American Legion and the "LA Club" and also the time spent with his family.
Eldon is survived by his children, Joyce Morehouse of Cedar Rapids, Douglas Stepanek of Fairfax and Pat (Shari) Stepanek of Atkins; daughter-in-law, Rose Lockhart of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, April (Dave) Lange, Angie (Nick) Von Ahsen, Abbie (Seth) Patterson, Kate (Josh) Hoeck, Melissa Stepanek, Colby Stepanek and Jarrad Stepanek; 14 great-grandchildren, Drew, Ryan, Luke, Jack, Will, Emma, Owen, Easton, Eli, Evan, Kinnick, Niley, Leah and Jayla; his sister, Marcella Vondra of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Virginia Young of Cedar Rapids; as well as several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Al Lorenc of Walford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothee, who died May 26, 1991; his son, John Lockhart; and a son-in-law, Ricky Morehouse.
Memorials may be directed to the Fairfax Amer-ican Legion in his honor.
