Derek Richard Freeze, 40, entered his eternal life on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at his residence in Lucas, Iowa.
He was born Tuesday, Nov. 6, 1973, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of G. Richard Freeze and Judy (Courtney) Freeze Gorden. He lived in Cedar Rapids and Marion, until relocating to the Des Moines area. Derek worked as an auto body painter and technician. He inherited his love for cars from his Grandpa Freeze and shared that with his cousin, Seth. Derek also had a love of music, which he shared with his father.
Derek is survived by his wife, Carrie; children, Brenden, Eric, Tommy, Zoe, Destiny and Chris; his father, G. Richard Freeze; mother and stepfather, Judy and Lou Gorden; his sister, Britney (Monica); niece, Kenzie; his maternal grandparents, Kathleen Novak and Bill Courtney; and maternal stepgrandfather, Marvin Gorden; his paternal aunts and uncle, Jackie Williams, Jerri Langevin,
Carol Freeze (Jeff Perry) and Jeni Smith; maternal uncles, Mike and Pat Courtney and John Novak; his paternal cousins, Seth Freeze, Kortney (Kent) Deutmeyer, Haley Perry and Kasi Freeze; and many friends and extended family members who love him dearly.
Derek was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jack and
Doris Freeze; and his maternal stepgrandfather, Wes Novak.
"Our family chain is broken; a link is missing. But we will reunite one day and the chain will be connected again."
