Janet "Jan" Kay Bennett, 74, died peacefully in her son's and her and husband, Ty's former home from a courageous battle with cancer. Celebration of Jan's life will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with burial to follow in Anderson Cemetery in Swisher. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Brosh Chapel. The family requests everyone attend in casual attire.
Jan was born Dec. 7, 1939, in West Branch, the daughter of Francis W. and Clarice (Countryman) Cihla. She was united in marriage to Ty Bennett on July 6, 1958. She worked for Moore Business Forms for over 23 years until her retirement in 2003.
Jan was a member of Swisher American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching old shows, camping, traveling and especially the time spent with her family.
Jan is survived by her children, Gerald "Jerry" (Angie) Bennett of Cedar Rapids, Teri (Jim) Fort-mann of Marion, Chris Bennett of Swisher and Darla Bennett of Swisher; eight grandchildren, Marisa (Mike) Malloy, Eric (Abby) Bennett, Natasha Bennett, Travis Bennett, Emily Bennett, Bridget Bennett, Doug Fortmann and Jessica (Collin) Mack; 10 great-grandchildren, Allie, Alex, Hallie, Conner, Austynne, Zoe, Mia, Keygyn, Draven and Declan and two on the way, Lexi Marie and baby Mack; brother, Charles (Sharon) Cihla of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Debra (Larry) Syring of Appleton, Wis., and Sandra A. Cihla of Sterling, Ill; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine "Jerry Sue" (Bob) Teel of Cedar Rapids and Dawn (Bob) Ballinger of Toledo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and her special dogs, Buddy, Zoe and Hawkeye.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ty, who died May 16, 2012; a son, Tyrone Bennett Jr.; an infant daughter, Wendy Sue Bennett; and a great-grandson, Thomas Bennett.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jan's sister, Sandy, for her loving care and devotion over the past year for Jan.
