Terry McCollister

TERRY MCCOLLISTER

Terry Roy McCollister passed away at his home in Arizona the morning of March 19, 2014.

He was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on May 3, 1934, to Otto John and Alice Marie McCollister. He lived a full, active and interesting life and is survived by his wife, Annelle Fletcher McCollister; his children, John Christian McCol-lister, J. Gregory McCollister and Kathryn McCollister Wohnoutka; his stepson, Benson Cabot Fletcher; his brother, Dr. Robert John McCollister, and his sister, Susan McCollister Zielin. He was the proud grandfather of William Blake McCollister, Daniel Jacob McCollister, Kathryn Anne McCollister, Anna Elizabeth Wohnoutka and Jacob Michael Wohnoutka.

His wife of 44 years, Joan Bury McCollister, was taken in 2001 after a long fight with scleroderma.

Terry retired from El Paso Natural Gas (EPNG). During his engineering career, he also worked for Fairchild Semiconductor International, Pratt & Whitney and Union Carbide Corporation. While working for Fairchild and EPNG, he was involved with several projects to enhance life on the Navajo Indian Reservation.

He was active even in retirement by performing consulting services in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the country of Chile. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. He served his country in the Army of the United States at White Sands Missile Range.

Throughout his life he maintained a love for sports cars and flying. He was an avid pilot, flight instructor and chairman/ owner of Shakespeare Av-iation. He stayed physically active by jogging and walking, he liked the experience of participating in 10Ks and was proud of concluding these races with his co-finishers, which he fondly called the "Beer and Enchilada Crowd;" because his reward, like theirs, was the enjoyment of actively participating in the event.

He took great pleasure in his travels to Europe and developed many long-standing relationships there.

Having spent many years in Texas he considered himself a "Texan." He most recently spent his time traveling between his homes in Roanoke, Texas, and Green Valley, Ariz.

Terry will be fondly remembered for his strong will, intelligence, generosity, keen sense of humor and above all for his

dedication to his family. He was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed.

He was a great man who brought genuine enjoyment to everyone he encountered…. . He lived a remarkable life, and much like the races he ran, he actively participated in everything he did.
