William H. Marchant Sr., 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at his home. There will be a private family inurnment at Linwood Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Marchant of Cedar Rapids; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sons, William H. Marchant Jr. and Randy L. Marchant.
William was born July 12, 1930, in Omaha, Neb., son of William and Iola (Mrsny) Marchant. A 1948 graduate of Benson High School, he attended University of Nebraska in Omaha. On March 3, 1951, he married Bonnie Taylor in Omaha. He was then drafted into the United States Army in El Paso, Texas. William worked in road construction for two years. After returning home, he worked at Quaker Oats, Corps of Engineers, A.Y. McDonald and then later at Lennox all in Omaha. In 1969, he transferred to Sioux City, then later in 1973 to Cedar Rapids. William retired in 1993, after 28 years with Lennox.
He was active in the Boy Scouts and as a Mason in Omaha. William loved golfing and bowling.
