Lee Edward "Buck" Smith, 85, was born June 23, 1928, to Arthur Clyde Smith and Roxie Ann Turner in Independence, Mo. He left us peacefully Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014.
Lee leaves behind his children, Ralph and Carol Smith (Omaha, Neb.), Patricia Bratten (Independence, Mo.), Shirley Fitzpatrick (Cedar Rapids) and Wanda Smith (Anchorage, Alaska).
Lee also leaves behind one brother, Paul Smith (Blue Springs, Mo.); six grandchildren; 10 great-grandkids; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Lee was proceeded in his death by his parents, Arthur and Roxie Ann; one sister, (Alice Winfray); and two half siblings, Anderson "Jack" Matnay and James Matney.
Lee was a very ornery man who liked to live life to the fullest. He worked at Iowa Steel and later for the City of Cedar Rapids Parks Department for many years until retirement.
Lee was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren, Holly and Eric. Lee will be greatly missed.
Lee will be cremated and later buried at the family cemetery in Blue Springs, Mo. No services will be held upon his request.
