Esther Jane Wright, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Unity Point Health. A Celebration of Life service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at American Legion Post 298 in Marion, where friends and family may call from 3 to 7 p.m.
Esther was welcomed into life by her parents, Joe and Loretta Stoos, on Dec. 26, 1928, in Alton, Iowa. She married Thomas G. Wright on Feb. 9, 1948. Always the rock of the family, Esther's strength provided a lifelong beacon for her family to follow, especially after Tom's death in 2003. Friends and strangers alike were always welcome in her home and her selfless generosity offered love and security to anyone who crossed her path.
Esther will be lovingly remembered by surviving family, including sons, Craig, Keith (Lou Ann), Christopher (Stacia) of Marion, Kevin (Lauri) of Houston, Texas, and Dave (Anne) Williams of DeWitt; her brothers, Don of Denver, Colo., and Phil (Mickey) of Marion; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; son, Curtis; brothers, Joe, James and Dennis; sisters, Bernadine, Joann and Patty; as well as her parents, Joe and Loretta.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be directed to Macular Degeneration Research, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, University of Iowa, 200 Hawkins Dr., Iowa City, IA 52242.
