An Iowa City woman is accused of stealing nearly $60,000 from her employer over a 14-month period.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, 44-year-old Julie K. Taylor was employed by Hawkeye Waste Systems. Police said Taylor had access to checks written by customers for services provided by Hawkeye Waste Systems.
According to criminal complaints, Taylor took some of those checks, endorsed them with her name and deposited into her personal bank accounts. Police said between Oct. 10, 2011 and Feb. 20, 2013, Taylor deposited 126 checks totaling $58,262.75.
Taylor admitted to "taking a few checks," during an interview with an investigator, police said. She has been arrested and faces one count of first-degree theft, a class C felony.
