Donna A. Pic, 87, of Dubuque, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Marion, died Sunday morning, March 16, 2014, at Ennoble Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Dubuque. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Friday at Queen of All Saints Chapel, All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. John R. Flaherty. Burial: St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the church after 9:30 a.m. Friday. Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, Cedar Rapids, is serving the family.
Donna is survived by a son, Zane M. Pic and wife Jody of Loveland, Colo.; daughter, Deb A. Pic-Deutmeyer and husband Herb of Asbury; daughter-in-law, Karen Pic of Chesterfield, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Chris, Erin, Shannon, Adrienne, Joshua, Ryan and Ashley; 10 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Rachel, Rebeca, David, Curtis, Caila, Coen, Evan, Estes and Makena; and two unborn great-grandchildren due in March and May.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Peter; son, Cass John Pic; parents and a brother, Henry Wittek.
Dannota Wittek was born Sept. 21, 1926, in Tarnow, Poland, the daughter of Johann and Bronislawa (Kurtak) Wittek. She married Peter Pic on Aug. 15, 1945, in Grosbottwar, Germany. Peter died April 6, 2008. Donna and her family came to America from Ludwigsburg, Germany, in May 1949, arriving by ship in Boston. They traveled from Boston to Chicago and then to Fort Madison, Iowa, where they lived for five or six months. The family then moved to West Point, Iowa, where they lived for two years.
In August 1952, they moved to Cedar Rapids. Donna had been a stay-at-home mother until the family moved to Cedar Rapids. She had worked at Sun-Mart Foods, Merchants National Bank and Peoples Bank and Trust Co., retiring as a teller from First Trust and Savings Bank in January 1997.
One of the proudest moments in Donna's life was when she became a U.S. citizen on April 10, 1956.
Donna was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and while living in Dubuque she attended St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
She enjoyed knitting and shopping and loved animals. Donna loved her family more than anything else in her life.
Donna's family would like to extend their thanks to her special friend, Abby Moore, Dr. Jared Freiburger, Sunset Park Place, Ennoble Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehab and Hospice of Dubuque for the wonderful care they gave to Donna.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to All Saints Catholic Church, 720 29th St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
