Robert "Bob" Ernst, 78, of Solon, died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Mercy Iowa City. Private family services will take place. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. There will be no visitation.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Delores (Fritze); their five children, Sue (Corey) Schoenfelder of Newhall, Julie (Mark) Divoky of Solon, Jim (Kim) Ernst of Newhall, Tonia (Brett) Cox of Iowa City and Bobbi Ernst (Chuck Williams) of North Liberty; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and his brother, James (Linn) of Shady Side, Md.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Bessie; and sister, Joyce.
Bob was born Sept. 4, 1935, to Vincent and Bessie Ernst in Cedar Rapids. He married Delores Fritze on Sept. 5, 1959, in Cedar Rapids. Bob worked at Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric for 46 before retiring. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
