Ruby Louise Burns, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at her home. Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends one hour before the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Ruby was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Hartford, Mo., the daughter of Samuel Clifford and Maggie Mae (Saulsbury) Triplett. She graduated from Unionville High School in 1942 and was baptized in the Christian faith as an adult.

Ruby married Howard Glendon Burns in 1946, and they were blessed with six children. During her career, she worked in various stores in Cedar Rapids: Robinson Wholesale, Woolworth's, Kosek's Five and Dime and Killians Department store.

The two of them owned various rental properties in the Cedar Rapids area over the years. Ruby was well known for the flowers she grew in her yard in their homes in Cedar Rapids on Belle Avenue, First Street SW, Bever Avenue SE, 14th Street NE and 29th Street NE. She delighted in growing vegetables in her garden and fed her family over the years with fresh produce from it.

Ruby was most recently a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. Anybody who knew her would describe her as a gentle, kind person who was a true Christian, loving others and giving so much of herself and never afraid of hard work. She loved visiting her family and friends in Missouri and always carried the Missouri spirit within her heart.

She is survived by her children, Cheryl (Bill) Brunscheen, Sharon (Ted) Burns-Knutson, Mary (Terry) Isaac and Sarah (Doug) Schoon; daughter-in-law, Terry Burns; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; son, John; daughter, Charlotte; and great-granddaughter, Gwendolyn Schoon.
