Chase ends in motorcycle crash at Edgewood Road, Highway 100

A short chase through Hiawatha Friday morning ended when the driver of a motorcycle collided with an SUV.

Hiawatha Police Sgt. Ben Kamm said an officer observed a motorcycle speeding southbound on Miller Road shortly after 8 a.m. Friday. The officer attempted to pull over the driver, later identified as 21-year-old Isaac Grigg, but Grigg instead led police on a short chase.

Kamm said the chase took police from Miller Road to Blairs Ferry to Edgewood to the intersection of Edgewood and Highway 100. where Griggs collided with a Toyota SUV.

Police said Griggs suffered “superficial” injuries and the driver of the SUV was unharmed. Both the motorcycle and the SUV sustained some damage.

Kamm said Griggs was charged with eluding and “a handful” of traffic citations. He was taken to the Linn County Jail.
