Iowa City police said they're looking for a man who broke into a woman's apartment while she slept Wednesday morning.
Police were called to 302. S. Gilbert St. at 3:15 a.m. for a report of a burglary in progress. Officers entered the apartment, but the suspect had already fled.
The two female residents told officers that one of them woke to find a man in her bedroom, standing next to her bed. She began to scream and kick at the suspect, who then fled the apartment, police said.
Police said the suspect – described only as a black man, 5 feet 8 inches tall – entered the second floor apartment through a locked balcony door.
Police said nothing was stolen during the incident.
“I don't think that was the motivation on this,” said Sgt. Zach Diersen.
Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of this suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-8477.
