A grandmother punched a 22-year-old Iowa City man three times after she received a text from her grandson accusing the man of sexually assaulting him.
Devin Menard was charged Tuesday with second-degree sexual abuse, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and fourth-degree criminal mischief in Johnson County District Court. Menard is accused of sexually assaulting a boy, under the age of 12, on May 15, and attempting to touch his private parts on May 21, at the same residence in Iowa City, according to a criminal complaint. The boy told police he asked Menard not to touch him.
According to a criminal complaint, the boy in the May 21, incident told his grandmother in a text that Menard touched him in a "weird way and I don't want to stay here." The grandmother went to the residence and punched Menard three times.
Menard is also charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and is accused of damaging a police vehicle after being handcuffed and hitting his head against the inside of the car, denting it. The estimated cost to repair the dent is $250.
