The National Weather Service has issues a flood watch for portions of Eastern Iowa until 6 p.m. today.
Yesterday's rainfall impacted a large area of mostly-frozen, already-saturated soil in Eastern Iowa, Northeast Missouri and West-Central Illinois.
Many area streams are already running full as more scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through the region today. Additional rainfall could lead to flooding on streams and low-lying areas.
Impacted counties in Iowa include Linn, Johnson, Cedar, Clinton, Des Moines, Dubuque, Henry, Jackson, Jefferson, Jones, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Muscatine, Scott, Van Buren, and Washington.
Cedar Rapids sewer operations manager Justin Koller said the Cedar River has thus far seen 'minimal impacts” from the recent rain, but the potential for flash flooding remains. Koller said small waterways in the city, such as Indian and Prairie creeks, could be impacted.
This story will be updated as conditions warrant.
