Iowa City woman faces charges after argument with son

An Iowa City woman faces charges for allegedly swinging a knife at her son during an argument Wednesday.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, officers were called to an apartment unit at 1102 Hollywood Blvd, where they found Teresa Richardson, 45, of Iowa City, arguing with her juvenile son in the parking lot.
The pair were arguing over money Richardson said her son owed her. According to the complaint, Richardson armed herself with a knife and threatened to stab him.
The criminal complaint states the juvenile had a small cut on one of his hands when officers arrived, which he said was caused by Richardson swinging the knife at him.
According to the complaint, Richardson said she did swing the knife at her son, but did not mean to cut him.
Richardson has been charged with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor. punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine from $650 to $6,250.
