The Cedar Rapids Community School District determined a threat at Franklin Middle School was not credible, but Cedar Rapids police officers are at the school this morning as a precaution, the district reported.
'Yesterday evening it was brought to our attention that a student may have overheard another student making a threat to the school,” according to an email District Spokeswoman Akwi Nji sent to Franklin parents and news media Friday morning. 'After investigation by both CRPD and school administrators throughout the night, it was determined that there was no evidence the rumor was valid.”
The district told parents Franklin will have 'heightened supervision” from district staff and police, but students will proceed with their regular Friday schedules.
'At the same time, we honor families' decisions to act in accordance with what they feel is best for their student and in the context of this information,” Nji said, implying parents could remove their students from school if they felt it was necessary.
