Man attempts Christmas Eve robbery at KFC in Cedar Rapids, flees scene

A male allegedly entered a KFC, brandished a handgun, and fled the scene.
According to a release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department at approximately 10:17 a.m. on December 24, 2018 a 5' 9'' black man described as having a thin build entered the KFC restaurant at 1341 First Ave. SE in Cedar Rapids.
The male, described as wearing a black coat over a black hooded sweatshirt with a dark blue bandanna over his face, allegedly brandished the handgun at the counter and then fled the scene through the rear door of the restaurant.
The male was also described as carrying a large red bag draped across his midsection.
At this time police are on scene conducting interviews and collecting evidence.
