Police: CR man used forged check to purchase nearly $2,000 in merchandise

A Cedar Rapids man faces theft and forgery charges after he allegedly used a forged check earlier this month to by nearly $2000 worth of merchandise.

According to police reports filed by the Coralville Police Department, Davvion Flemings, 24, and a woman purchased $1,795 worth of merchandise at Theisen's Department Store in Coralville using a forged check. Police said the incident occurred on Sept. 27.

According to the report, the check had Flemings' name on it and appeared to be a U.S. Bank check, but the routing number on the check was to a Veridian Credit Union account and belonged to someone other than Flemings. Police said Flemings' fingerprints were also on the check.

The woman was identified as Diamond McDowell, 24, of Cedar Rapids. She was arrested on charges of fourth-degree theft and forgery on Nov. 7.

A warrant was issued for Flemings' arrest on Nov. 7 and he was taken into custody Monday.

Flemings faces charges of second-degree theft and forgery, both class-d felonies.
