North Liberty police arrested a Cedar Rapids man Monday in connection with a year-old theft in which he and an unidentified accomplice allegedly stole several items from trucking-related business in North Liberty.
According to the police report, Byron L. Ziel, 32, and an accomplice allegedly entered a parking lot that belonged to Thermo King, at 2715 Stoner Court, and took more than $2000 worth of scrap metal and an engine core. Police say the theft occurred sometime between 6 p.m. on July 27, 2017 and 10 a.m. on July 28, 2017.
The defendants then sold the scrap metal to CC Recycling on 41st Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids, according to the report.
An arrest warrant was issued for Ziel on Sept. 4, 2018 and he was taken into custody on Monday. Ziel faces a charge of second-degree theft, a class-D felony.
