A Cedar Rapids man is charged with burglary after he was found Monday hiding in the crawl space of a Fifth Avenue SW residence, police say.
According to the criminal complaint, the homeowner found Gregory A. McCorkle, 27, in a crawl space on the upper level of his home in the 800 block of Fifth Avenue SW.
'Officers later found the defendant had armed himself with an ax when he committed the offense,” the complaint says.
The homeowner, who had a firearm, took one shot at McCorkle but missed, and McCorkle fled. He later was taken into custody near the residence, according to the complaint.
McCorkle faces a charge of second-degree burglary, a Class C felony.
