CORALVILLE - A Chicago man faces a theft charge after he allegedly stole a pickup truck from the parking lot of a Kum & Go convenience store in the 800 block of First Avenue in Coralville.
According to the criminal complaint, James C. Brewer, 29, was arrested Tuesday and faces a charge of first-degree theft.
Police said the charge stems from an incident that occurred July 20 when Brewer exited a black sedan and began to circle a 2012 Ford F-150 that was left unoccupied and running with the keys inside.
The criminal complaint states the Ford's owners saw Brewer enter the truck. Police said the owners ran out of the store and attempted to stop Brewer.
The owners were hanging on to the sides of the vehicle, attempting to open the doors as Brewer drove off, the complaint states.
Police said the truck later was found by the Iowa State Patrol in Cedar County. The value of the vehicle was estimated at $30,000, the complaint states.
Police said Brewer eluded troopers but was found Tuesday near Interstate 80 in Davenport and taken into custody.
