18-year-old arrested after shots fired in Cedar Rapids Friday

An 18-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon after a Cedar Rapids police investigator happened to be in the area when shots were fired nearby.

According to an incident report from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, at roughly 3:23 p.m. the investigator was at the intersection of O Avenue and 27th Street NW conducting a follow-up investigation when he reported hearing two gunshots that had been fired nearby. The investigator also observed a silver vehicle traveling north at a high rate of speed in the area of the 1600 block of 27th Street NW, according to the report. As the vehicle appeared to be leaving the scene, the investigator followed, as other units responded to assist in the pursuit.

The silver vehicle was pulled over at the 2400 block of 42nd Street NE, according to the report. When confronted by police, it was determined that the vehicle was occupied by two men and three juveniles. A handgun was found on one of the men, Brandon James Goad, 18. As no property damage or injuries had occurred, according to the report, Goad was charged with carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor.

This incident remains under investigation and police say no further information will be released at this time.
