Buckle up, drivers, as the Linn County Sheriff's Office will be stepping up enforcement of seat belt violations soon.
The concentrated effort will take place May 21 to June 3 as part of the national Click It or Ticket campaign.
'Click It or Ticket is not just about writing traffic tickets; it's about saving lives,” said a media release announcing the campaign.
48 percent of passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes were unrestrained, according to the latest available data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
In Iowa, highway fatalities spiked in 2016 before dropping in 2017, though officials expressed concern over the number of fatalities happening in work zones.
