A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested after allegedly burglarizing a home on the SW side of Cedar Rapids.
According to Cedar Rapids Police Spokesman Greg Buelow, Travis James Niccolls, 33, burglarized a home on the 2600 block of C Street SW.
When the resident arrived home, she noticed her bedroom light was on, and as she entered the residence, she reportedly saw that the kitchen was 'destroyed” and a back window had been broken.
She then called police, to report the incident, and dispatchers told her to leave the residence and wait for police to arrive.
When police arrived, they cleared the residence, but while they were working on the scene a second report of a subject attempting to break into a building near the swimming pool at Jones Park was received.
An officer arrived at this second scene and identified a suspect that matched the description of the individual.
Upon searching the suspect, Niccolls was found with items in a bag that matched items - including a laptop, binoculars, and a cellphone - reported missing from the initial scene on C Street SW. He was arrested on July 30, at 10:22 p.m. near Jones Park.
Niccolls has been arrested for third-degree burglary, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
