Cedar Rapids man accused of cashing forged checks at two banks

IOWA CITY - A Cedar Rapids man faces forgery and theft charges after he allegedly cashed two forged checks totaling nearly $9,000.
According to a police report from the Iowa City Police Department, Angelo L. Melendez Tillery, 38, went to Midwest One Bank on First Avenue in Coralville on Aug. 30 and cashed a forged check for $3,960.93. Later that same day, police said, he went to a Midwest One Bank on Clinton Street in Iowa City and cashed a check for $4,965.93.
Police said the checks were made payable to Tillery, who was required to present identification at the bank, and he was recognized in surveillance footage from both banks.
Between the two checks, police said Tillery collected $8,926.86.
Tillery faces charged of forgery and second-degree theft.
