A Cedar Rapids man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase through the city Sunday.
According to the criminal complaint, Tyler Allen Feuss, 19, is charged with second-degree theft. The complaint states Feuss stole a Volkswagen in the 600 block of Third Street SE and fled.
Police said the chase began when officers initiated a traffic stop at about 11:55 a.m. near Sixth Street SE and Seventh Avenue SE. Instead of stopping, the complaint states Feuss attempted to 'elude a marked law enforcement vehicle after being given a visual and audible signal to stop,” and instead 'led officers on a high-speed chase in downtown Cedar Rapids.”
At times, the complaint states the chase exceeded posted speed limits by more than 25 miles per hour as Feuss allegedly 'traveled the wrong way down one-way streets and disregarded other traffic control devices.”
The chase ended when Feuss allegedly lost control of the stolen vehicle and crashed into a Chevrolet Tahoe that was parked on Third Street SE. The Volkswagen then bounced off the Tahoe, police said, crossed two lanes of traffic and struck two poles before coming to a stop in the parking lot on the southeast corner of Fourth Avenue SE and Third Stree SE.
Police said Feuss then attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended.
Feuss additionally faces 19 traffic violations including reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway and 10 counts of failure to obey a traffic control device.
