CEDAR RAPIDS — An empty parking space Saturday in downtown Cedar Rapids will be a welcome sight.
Not only will Saturday be this season's debut of the Downtown Farmers Market from 7:30 a.m. to noon, it also marks graduation for Prairie High School starting at 12:30 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Center.
Many downtown streets will remain blocked off until about 1 p.m. while the market breaks up. Organizers expect about 200 vendors and 14,000 patrons.
But the streets will be back to normal well in advance of that night's 7 p.m. Jefferson High School graduation at the U.S. Cellular Center.

Vendors offered everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to handmade clothing and jewelry. This year's market debuts from 7:30 a.m. until noon Saturday. (Rebecca F. Miller/The Gazette)
