Cedar Rapids man dies after Greene Square altercation earlier this week

Cedar Rapids police have initiated a homicide investigation after a 38-year-old Cedar Rapids man has died as a result of an altercation in Greene Square last Tuesday.
According to a media release from the Cedar Rapids Police, officers responded to the altercation in Greene Square, 400 Fourth Avenue SE, on June 5 at roughly 4 p.m. There they found a man later identified as Scott Dexter, 38, of Cedar Rapids. Dexter was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, but investigators learned Saturday afternoon that he had died from his injuries, according to the release.
The Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, which they say is now considered an active homicide investigation. Police say Greene Square Park was occupied by several people at the time of the incident. The Cedar Police Department is asking that anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about the incident to contact Investigator Marty Devore at (319) 286-5411.
Police are also encouraging anyone with information helpful to the investigation to contact the Cedar Rapids Police Department at (319) 286-5411 or Linn County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-CS-CRIME (272-7463).
