Police are investigating an early morning shooting at an apartment complex on Park Towne Court NE, that left two people wounded — one with life-threatening injuries.
According to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, officers responded at 3 a.m. Wednesday to reports of woman knocking on apartment doors at 1640 Miami Drive NE, a few blocks from the shooting scene.
Police said callers reported the 19-year-old had sustained gunshot wounds. The wounds were deemed non-life threatening, police said.
When they arrived at the Miami Drive NE apartments, officers said they were told there was a second victim at The Pointe apartment complex at 1643 Towne Park Court NE.
There, police said they found a 27-year-old man who had sustained multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital, police said, and his condition is unknown.
The female victim was also taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Police said they believe both victims were shot at the Towne Park Court NE apartment complex and the female then fled to the nearby apartments on Miami Drive NE to get help.
Based on their preliminary investigation, the police department said investigators do not believe the shooting was random. No arrests have been made yet and the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Cedar Rapids Police Department at 319-286-5491.
