CEDAR RAPIDS - A person with a gunshot wound to the neck arrived at a Cedar Rapids hospital hours after a gunshot was reported following a disturbance at a home in southeast Cedar Rapids.
According to the police department, officers were dispatched just before 11 p.m. Friday to 1436 Bever Ave. SE after multiple calls reported that people were fighting on the front porch and a shot was fired.
Public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said residents at the house were socializing with guests on the front porch when two uninvited men approached the group and picked a fight with guests.
During the fight, Buelow said, a shot was fired by an 'unknown subject.”
Officers found three men with injuries related to fighting, according to a news release, but no one was struck by gunfire. Medical attention was sought for the injured men, ages 28, 40 and 42, police said.
The bullet, Buelow said, is believed to have struck a neighboring residence.
At the scene, officers spoke to witnesses and collected evidence, police said.
Roughly five and a half hours later - about 4:30 a.m. Saturday - a 19-year-old man was dropped off at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck. The wound did not appear to be life-threatening, police said.
Police said officers took photos, collected evidence and spoke to the man and the driver of the vehicle, but they declined to provide information as to who shot the man or where the shooting took place.
Police said they have not uncovered any direct connection between the shot fired at the Bever Avenue SE residence and the gunshot victim at the hospital.
Both incidents remain under investigation, Buelow said.
