Approximately 2,500 chickens died in a semi-trailer truck crash early Tuesday in Fayette County.
At about 1:30 a.m., Ray Raske, 44, of Alden, lost control of a truck hauling close to 5,000 chickens on Highway 18 west of West Union, the sheriff's office said. The westbound semi ended up on its side in the south ditch.
Raske and a child passenger had minor injuries but approximately half the chickens perished. The surviving chickens were gathered and loaded on another semi.
Raske was cited for failure to maintain control.
