IOWA CITY - An Iowa City woman was arrested Tuesday on a theft charge after police said she wrote fraudulent checks to herself and then cashed them.
According to the criminal complaint, Jade B. Thornton, 23, is charged with second-degree theft, a Class D felony.
Police said the charge stems from a six-day period last year, between Dec. 6 and Dec. 12, when Thornton wrote and cashed two checks belonging to Harold's Chicken. The checks totaled about $1,650.
The first check was written for $725, according to the complaint, and the second check was written for $925.
Court records show a warrant was issued for Thornton's arrest in December, and she was taken into custody Tuesday.
