CEDAR RAPIDS - Firefighters responded Wednesday evening for a report of smoke coming from the International Paper plant, 4600 C Street SW.
A tweet from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department said crews were on the scene of a two-alarm fire and 'bales of paper or raw product” were burning.
A KCRG-TV9 photographer observed firefighters cutting into the roof of the building, and said it was hard at the scene to distinguish between the smoke and steam coming from the building.
He also said the source of the smoke appeared to be contained entirely inside the structure.
Officials said hazardous materials specialists were not on the scene.
There were no injuries, according to the fire department.
