Oct. 20, 2014 6:51 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - An Aplington man who possessed child pornography was sentenced Monday to over 16 years in federal prison.
Jeremiah Romo, 21, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography in May. During the plea hearing, Romo admitted to possessing child pornography, including one or more depictions of prepubescent children. He also admitted that he was convicted in 2008 of second-degree sexual abuse in Butler County.
U.S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade ordered Romo to serve a 20-year term of supervised release after serving his prison time. He must comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Tremmel and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Butler County Sheriff's Office, and the Champaign County Sheriff's Office in Illinois.
