Cedar Rapids meth trafficker to serve 35 years in federal prison

CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man who was the leader of a methamphetamine trafficking ring was sentenced Monday to 35 years in federal prison.
Jacob William Brisbin, 28, pleaded guilty in October to conspiracy to manufacture and distribute a controlled substance.
According to evidence presented at sentencing, Brisbin for over the past year was the leader of the drug trafficking organization and was responsible for most of the daily manufacture of methamphetamine. Brisbin personally manufactured over 1.5 kilograms of methamphetamine during this time.
According to evidence presented at sentencing, Brisbin also maintained a network of various individuals who then distributed the meth on his behalf. Brisbin also distributed 'Ice” methamphetamine to various customers and possessed numerous firearms in connection with his operation.
Brisbin, while being detained at the Linn County Jail during this case, obstructed justice by influencing the testimony of government witnesses, according to evidence presented at his sentencing.
U.S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade also ordered Brisbin to serve an eight-year term of supervised release after his prison time.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa Williams and investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Cedar Rapids and Marion police departments, DEA, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Linn County Sherriff's Office and the U.S. Marshal Service.
