Four men charged in 2012 slaying of Latasha Roundtree

Updated:  Reginald Williams said he has "a whole lot of peace of mind" after attending a Thursday's hearing where three men were charged in the slaying of his daughter Latasha Roundtree last September.

"The family is feeling good today," Williams said. "I'm grateful to (the investigator) and the Cedar Rapids Police for their work."

Williams said it's the first time he saw members of his family smile since his daughter was killed Sept. 22, 2012 in the 600 block of 16th Avenue SW.

Tajh M. Ross, 18, of unknown address, is charged with first-degree murder, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit a forcible felony and going armed with intent, according to a criminal complaint. A $1 million cash only bond was set.

Adrian M. Kenney, 22, of Cedar Rapids, is charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit a forcible felony, trafficking in stolen weapons, perjury and accessory after the fact, according to a criminal complaint.  A $100,000 cash or surety bond was set.

Liban Muhidin, 20, of Cedar Rapids, is charged with conspiracy to commit a forcible felony, perjury and accessory after the fact, according to a criminal complaint. Muhidin also had a $100,000 cash or surety bond.

All three men made their initial appearances by video from the Linn County Jail. The other man, Jeremiah Ellis, 18, who is also charged in the case remains in custody in Rockford, Ill., until he's extradited back to Linn County on Friday. Ellis will have an initial appearance 9:30 a.m. Saturday and he will be charged with first-degree murder, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit a forcible felony and going armed with intent.

Ross and Ellis are accused of firing weapons into a car in which Roundtree was a passenger that night, according to a criminal complaint. There were others in the car with Roundtree but the complaint doesn't identify them.

Kenney and Muhidin are accused of being involved in the planning of the crime, supplying stolen firearms for the crime, disposing of evidence, helping others flee from the scene and providing false information to the Linn County Attorney's Office during depositions in December 2012 and January 2013.

First Assistant Linn County Attorney Nick Maybanks said after the hearing he couldn't elaborate on the complaints about a motive or if Roundtree was the target of the shooting. He did say the investigation is ongoing and there could be others arrested.

Williams said he didn't know of any motive to shoot his daughter. The defendants were acquaintances of his daughter's, and they had attended the memorial services for her.
